Vintage Fashion Domino Book

Hello There!!  Its' me, Shari--Thanks so much for joining me here at Artistic Outpost today!!  With Christmas approaching, I've got a fun and relatively quick stocking stuffer idea to share with you.

It's an altered domino art book!!  I used images from our new Vintage Fashion stamp set to create this unique, one-of-a-kind gift, that would be perfect for that fashion-diva in your life!  Let me show you a little bit of what I did to alter two dominoes into this tre chic creation!

I used alcohol ink to stain all sides of the domino.  The particular alcohol ink that I used is from a batch of AI's that I originally purchased back in 1998, called 'Studio 2 Ink-It' and this color is Watermelon.

I don't even think the manufacturer is still in business, but my bottle of ink sure is!!

I stamped the label image onto tissue paper twice, with Jet Black Archival ink.  I'll use one piece of it to cover the 'outside' of the book, and one piece for the 'inside'.

I adhered the stamped tissue onto both dominoes with matte Decou-Page, let air dry, then I adhered the second piece of stamped tissue to the other side and let that air dry, too.

After the tissue layer was dry, I brushed a coat of DAM Crackle Glaze onto all of the surfaces of the dominoes and let air dry.  That crackly goodness just sends me--I love it!!

To enhance all of those wonderful crackles, I brushed a layer of DAM Titanium White Antiquing Cream over the surfaces and when dried, gently wiped away with a damp cloth.  I love how vintagey these dominoes look now!  So fun!!  I finished the treatment of the dominoes with a brushing of DAM Ultra Matte Varnish to seal the crackled finish permanently.  I drilled a small hole into the domino to screw this part of the hitch fastener into place.

This lovely grand-dam of fashion was stamped onto coffee stained vellum with Jet Black Archival ink.  I fussy cut her and adhered her onto the domino surface with matte Decou-Page.  When she was dry, I adhered the 'Fashion' word band into place and let dry.  I glued the hitch fastener into place with E6000 adhesive to really make sure it won't come off.  When that was completely dry, I outlined the woman and word band with my white gel pen and a shadow of Pumice Stone Distress Marker.

For the inside pages of this domino book, I created an accordion-folded piece of manila stock, that I had stained with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  I embellished the piece with pen cap circles I had dipped into Distress Paints, then I made paint lines with an old gift card.  I added stamped and fussy cut images and word bands....

...Inked all of the edges then adhered to the 'insides' of the dominoes.  I used a few clothespins to clamp into place while the adhesive dried.

I can't just show you the 'front' side of the pages without showing you the backside, too--I made sure to leave plenty of space to jot down little notes or observations.

I tied a piece of funky yarn to the hitch fastener screw and wrapped around the book and knotted around the hitch to close the book.  I picked this yarn especially, because it looks like she's wearing a feather boa!

I'm really enjoying creating on and with smaller surfaces (much smaller than what I'm used to, for sure!), and little projects like this can be made quickly and sent off in plenty of time to arrive for Christmas!  I may whip out a couple of more to get sent out just in the nick-o' time!

Speaking of time....We're just one week into our December Show Us Your AO Art Challenge--plenty of time to bring us your Artistic Outpost projects!!  The link closes on December 31st @ 11:55pm CST and you've got a chance to win a $15.00 gift certificate towards the purchase of Artistic Outpost stamps!

Thanks again for joining me today and I'll see you next week!!
