SteamPunk

The new SteamPunk images are fabulous for guy cards.

My first card was inspired by the overall Steampunk feel. I started with a vintage electrical drawing and stamped the hand and wheel from the stamp set as though it is moving around the circuit path. I then added two of the sentiments from the set, lots of grungy sponging, and some metal (screw brad and clipiola) to finish the design. It will be perfect for any one of the mechanically inclined men in my family.

I particularly love this set because my grandfather used to build miniature steam engines and attend a steam engine festival each year. For my next card, I went with a more traditional theme with the set's fabulous train image stamped in black on ivory cardstock and clear embossed. The designer papers are from the Graphic 45 Communique Collection. To add some texture I incorporated black plastic cross-stitch canvas & some wonderful "ribbon" made from recycled vintage silk saris.

Simply...A Lovely Day

This set really reminds me of our vacation a few years back, where we stayed in Holland for several days.  The Dutch Delft blue pottery was beautiful, and the memory of it inspired this card.

Lovely Day

I used the colors in the Scarlett's Letter paper from Basic Grey as the inspiration for coloring the image.  I used the Wet Stencil Technique to add the stencil to the Watercolor Paper. Once dry, the image was stamped in Black Archival, and colored using the Marker Watercoloring technique.

Man Among Boys

My inspiration for this stamped collage started with the building which I had stamped on scrap paper when I was cleaning the stamp. I like how the cleaner made it a bit blurry and washed out yet recognizable.  I added all the other images around it.  For dimension, the gentleman and "gentleman's choice" were stamped on scrap paper and added over the collage images.  I used the new Distress color Pumice Stone for most of the shading.  All stamps are from Steampunk.

Generation Redux - Birthday Card

Card designed using Generation Redux stamps. The image was stamped in black ink on the amazing Neenah cardstock...you just can't go wrong with it. Distress Inks stamp well on it, as well as using any of your art markers. Thanks for looking....Robyn

Steampunk Chunky ATC

Have you tried a Chunky ATC yet? I had played around with one ages ago, but ended up abandoning it because I could never figure out what to do with all the different sides. When I got the new Steampunk stamps, I pulled it back out and everything just fell into place!

All you need is a 2 x 4 piece of lumber that is cut to 2 1/2". First, I sanded it a bit and then covered it with vintage papers to give myself a base to work on.

Next, I added lots of stamped images and various clock gears and other Steampunk-inspired bits. I also stamped directly onto the block. A bit of sanding around the edges and lots of Brushed Corduroy Distress ink, and you're done!

Take a Little Trip with Me...

On the Artistic Outpost SteamPunk Train!

To create the SteamPunk card I stamped the train image in Black Archival on Watercolor Paper, colored with the Marker Watercoloring Technique.  I stamped "admit one" from the Artistic Outpost Vintage Circus plate in Black on Red then punched with a Ticket Punch, I thought it went well with the train theme.  The sentiment from Lovely Day is stamped in Black Archival on the Basic Grey paper.  The piece of Map behind my image is from some scrap paper, but you could substitute this with the Map from the Artistic Outpost Route 66 plate.  I sponged Old Paper Distress ink onto the map panel to age it a bit

I Love the new images from the Steampunk plate. I feel a connection with these and my Grandfather who worked most of his life on the Railroad.

A Study in Black & White

Spring Flowers

I had so much fun Guest Designing for the fabulous March releases. To me, these images from A Lovely Day were perfect to embellish with spring flowers.

This adorable little girl's bouquet was decorated with Prima flowers. I died the vintage lace to match the green of the leaves by using several green and yellow ink sprays.

The bicycle and sentiment were stamped on a vintage book page (no sponging here ... that's the natural aging of the paper). I added Prima Blooms to fill the bicycle basket and a Zva Creative Pearl Flourish to finish the design.

Tulip Field

This new image from A Lovely Day is as pretty as a picture!  Can't you just picture yourself here!  I used the Pastel Chalk Detailing Technique from a past issue of TJNL, to add color to the images.  I added clouds in the sky using a punched scallop, sponge dauber and Bashful Blue ink.

Artistic Outpost March Releases: Lovely Day and Steampunk

Artistic Outpost is excited to share with you our newest release for March 2010. We have two new stamp collections, Lovely Day and SteamPunk. We hope these stamps inspire you to get your creativity out of the doldrums of winter and into the lightness of spring.  Both 8.5" x 5.5" sheets come in both unmounted, untrimmed red rubber or mounted and trimmed on EZMount cling foam.
Inspired by the lovely country side of Holland, this collection features a Dutch bicycle complete with basket, a windmill that looks almost like a photo, but lends itself to coloring nicely, and an adorable little girl who is cradling a bouquet of flowers in her hands. Entire collection includes 9 images including multi-use quotations and sentiments.
Featuring 10 masculine, Victorian era images, Steampunk is a fun and diverse collection. These stamps will be perfect for an altered, grungy mixed-media piece or a simple "Father Day's" card.
To celebrate this release, we're featuring 15% off just about everything in our store**. Just use coupon code: spring2010_15 at check out.  Hurry, as this deal won't last.  Coupon code is valid through March 31, 2010.

Happy Bird-day!

I hope you're all not getting tired of birthday cards! This little hanging was made with stamps from the Serenity, Birds of a Feather, The Outpost, and Paris Exposition stamp collections. By adding a computer generated sentiment (by the way, Joyeux Anniversaire means Happy Birthday in French), a hat on the bird, and a cake created with paper and glitter, you have a birthday card made completely from non-birthday stamps!

Meet Our March Guest Designer - Stephanie Severin

Welcome to a new feature here on the Artistic Outpost Blog!  Today I'd like to introduce you to our March Guest Designer Stephanie Severin.  I became familar with Stephanie's work when she began playing in the Montlhy Referral Contests here at Artistic Outpost.  I just love her use of colors and mix of papers using Artistic Outpost images.
