Braver...Stronger...Smarter

Hi, Lisa here today sharing a card created with one of the lovely sentiments from the Typography plate.  I think this would be a perfect card to give to a girlfriend who might be going through some hard times.

The top panel is embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder, then highlighted with Grey ink.  I used a SAMJ to add the sentiment in Black Archival on the pink panel.  The flower  and swirls are Spellbinders Dies.

Don't forget today is the last day to enter your Artistic Outpost creations into the September Referral program for a chance to win a $14 AO Gift Certificate!

Please Write

My focal image and sentiment are from the wonderful stamp sheet Favorite Book. I think she has such a great face. I decided to use the postcard stamp from Ephemeral Backgrounds to create the look of a postcard. The address is part of a stamp from London Underground. To color I used Copics and distress inks.

Man's Best Friend

One of my favorite things about the new Typography set is looking for fun ways to use the new sentiments with different Artistic Outpost images ... like this great one from Adventure.

My friends and family are scattered across the country ... so most of our contact is through e-mail and over the telephone. I thought this was the perfect image to convey my concern across-the-miles when things are a bit stressful. And ... Man's Best Friend can always tell when a little extra love is needed.

A Favorite Book and Huckleberry Finn

Artistic Outpost's new stamp plate " Favorite Book"  is a perfect blend and cross-match with many of our rubber stamps.   Huck Finn stamp plate is an excellent example of how versatile Artistic Outpost images can be with embodied with this frame.

For this card I used many products from the Tim Holtz line:  Alterations- Film Stip and Gears, Alcohol Inks and Distress Stain inks.

thanks for stopping by Artistic Outpost Blog, be sure to visit the gallery for more wonderful ideas using our stamps.

Do Small Things Greatly

I just adore the new Whimsical Melange stamp set.  I pulled out the little cameos from the frame that's in that plate and added them to my banner.  I also used the ruler from the Whimsical Melange set and placed it across the bottom of my card.  The sentiment is from the new Typography plate.

Do Small Things Greatly

The little boy from the Paris Exposition plate looks like he is at the state fair. I thought it would be fun to use the banners from the Whimsical Melange and create a little set of flags across his fence.  The background effect is the ledger from the Ephemeral Backgrounds.  The sentiment is  from the new Typography set.

Have a happy Friday!

Time to Read

Are the kids back in school?
Having trouble keeping track of all their schedules?
Well how about a little book that can do just that.
I created the mini book with the new stamps from
A Favorite Book
Colored with markers and layered over with a sheet of natural Wax paper
The text was stamped on a piece of mica.
Then added cute little tags and a Journey charm.

Braver, Stronger, Smarter

The sentiments on the Typography stamp sheet are super. I created a masculine card around one of the quotes. The quote was stamped and then framed with a die cut frame. The background paper from Club Scrap is a wonderful dull metallic with small green rectangular markings. I stamped and cut out the knight from the stamp sheet My Knight and adhered him to the card. I thought he was a great image to go with the sentiment.

Whimsical Chicken Coop

I turned this fun little banner flab image from Whimsical Melange into a classy little chicken coop.

I trimmed around my image and then added two more similarly shaped borders. My card opens along the top left roof. I added a sentiment from Typography, another sentiment & the chickens from Country Life, and a few chocolate pearls to accent my butterfly.

It was the perfect thank you card for a friend who raises chickens and shares her garden bounty with us.

The Best is Yet to Come

.....and won' that be fine!

I used the a verse from Typography
for this card.  I've added ribbons, a glittered paper flower,
a button and lace with more ribbon behind the mat.
I stepped away from distressing with this card!
Lots of layers and some glitter instead!
All the verses in Typography work well
as the main image for a card.  Or pair them with
images from any of the other stamp sets.
Thanks for visiting!

Hearts Rule

I had fun creating a little roost for the birds using the rulers from the Whimsical Melange Plate. Love the effect and texture when sponged and distressed. There even is a fun hole in the ruler that fit the punch perfectly. My birds are busy untangling a piece of twine with a few hearts.

Recipe:
  1. Stamp ruler multiple times using black archival ink on ivory cardstock.
  2. Sponge with yellow, orange and brown dye inks.
  3. Distress edges using distressing tool.
  4. Piece together a staggered background.
  5. Stamp little birds randomly on background using black ink.
  6. Stamp birds on ivory cardstock using black ink. Watercolor with green and reds.
  7. Punch hearts from music sheet and spray with red glimmer mist.
  8. Stamp sentiment on ivory cardstock using black ink. Sponge background with yellow and orange dye ink.
  9. Cut out sentiment and mount on black cardstock.
  10. Assemble.

    Chunky Steampunk ATC

    Life Is Good.
I'm sure thats what the inventors of the Airplane must have thought
when they saw their planes take flight for the first time.
For my chunky Steampunk ATC I used the newest stamps
Whimsical Melange, Typography and Loverly London.
Isn't that mini plane just the cutest thing?
Of course Steampunk isn't complete with out a few gears and a mini lighbulb.

    Congratulations to Lisa Somerville!

AO's very own designer, Lisa Somerville, is the creative mistress behind the craze that is "test tube" couture.  Her template designs for these unique test tubes are featured all over the blogiverse.  Lisa was highlighted today on the Splitcoast Stampers website giving great instructions on how to create her one-of-a-kinds!

    The Time is Now

I've had so much fun playing with the new stamps from Whimsical Melange. They are fabulous to mix with other stampsets. Here I used stamps from Fortune Teller along with Whimsical Melange to create this card. First I stamped the frame on a piece of cardstock. I masked the edges and stamped the fortune teller inside. She is colored with Copics. The background was embossed using an embossing folder and then highlighted with distress inks. Along the side I used a pennant die cut and then stamped the pennants inside each of the triangles. I added the clock face with a spinner attached with a brad and the sentiment which was stamped on a separate scrap of paper. I think the resulting card is a fun one.

    True Happiness

I used a sketch from CardPatterns together with Authentique papers and stamps from the new Typography & Whimsical Melange sets for this card design.

I stamped the little pennant house on yellow DP and then again on pink DP to paper piece the butterfly. I added the flourished design along the bottom to off-set the point at the top. The clock was stamped twice and then a pink brad was added to create the clock hands.

I finished with a Typography sentiment stamped on the inside and an Authentique chipboard sentiment at the bottom ... True Happiness.

Hold Fast to That Which is Good

A set of mini note cards I made using the Whimical Melange set (used the litte house shaped stamp as my template) and the Typography set.

This is the outside of one of the mini notes. (Couldn't help but add the tiny snap to where it says "hold fast.")

And this is the inisde.  I held the two sides together with some decorative tape down the middle.

And as today is the ten-year anniversary of 9/11, I think this simple sentiment is very appropriate.

    Live Your Beliefs Masculine Card

I've used a combination of stamps for this masculine card!
I stamped the man (sorry, I don't know his name!) from Gatsby with
Pumice Stone ink and added some inking around the edges
with Antique Linen.  Once the ink was dry, I stamped
the verse from the new Typography set
with black ink and clear heat embossed ofver it.
    I really like the effect!!!
I added a frame and mat.  The backround on
the card front is stamped with the ledger from
Ephemeral Backgrounds and inked with Vintage Photo
    and Pumice Stone.

    Be Yourself

This sentiment is a great reminder of being yourself. I had so much fun pairing it up with the Lion and the Tin Man from the Oz collage plate. I thought how appropriate for them as they were all searching for what they really had within themselves. :)

The background and frame is from the Whimsical Melange Plate. The Lion and Tin Man are from the Oz Collage plate and the sentiment is from the Typography plate.

The background colors are a mix of dye inks blended and the images are colored using watercolor pencils. The colors were softened with distressing using a white acrylic paint. The seam binding was dyed with the same dye inks to coordinate.

    Have a wonderful Friday!

    Union Jack Bunting

This creative bunting was designed by Shelly Hickox, and features our perfectly distressed UK flag from the London Underground collection. Shelly stamped this image using distress stains onto fabric and then sewed each flap to a burlap backing.  Some seam binding and a zig zag stitch connected each of the "bunts"...(is that a word?)

I love it...wish I knew how to use my old sewing machine that is literally controlled by a Nintendo game boy unit circa 1999.

Thanks for sharing this project, Shelly.

    Have a wonderful weekend,
    Robyn

    All in a Row

For my little Row of houses I combined both the
    Whimsical Melange and Typography stamps
on the little wood shaped cutouts.

    Read Read Read

This wonderful stamp from the fabulous new release, Favorite Book is perfect for back-to-school time. The background is a form of paper peeling (TJ newsletter Apr/May 2010). I used a dictionary page torn into pieces and glued to a panel, some masking tape to distress the panel, and some shimmery Creative Inspiration Paints to color it.
The girl was stamped and colored using the paints and cut using a Spellbinders label die. The embellishments were in my stash, but I thought they were perfect to add to a fall, back-to-school themed card.

    This Old School House

Remember the days of the Old School House that often consisted of one room and an aged wood stove.. I am not that old, but I have used a cook stove.
Artistic Outpost lastest release "A Favorite Book"....is a nostalgic replica of  the good ole days.  No ipods, video games and just your favorite book.
Be sure to visit the Gallery to see all the new stamp plate releases.

For this card I used a method of torn frames and Tim Holtz Distress Stains for my background pieces.....

    Life Is Good

Look carefully at this canvas and you'll see the background stamping I did with the Whimsical Melange set.  I wanted a very subtle background and used an assortment of these stamps to achieve it.  Of course I also used the banner stamp from that set, too, as well as the sentiment from the Typography set.
I started by covering my canvas with white gesso and then just added my stamps with different colored inks.   A little glitter went around the edges of the canvas.  I stamped my banner onto the canvas and then once again on a separate sheet of cardstock which I then cut out and attached over the original banner.
Lots of great background stamps in the Whimsical Melange set.  And the banner stamp is my new favorite!

    Smarter than you Think

Hi, Lisa here today sharing a card I created with images from the new Typography and A Favorite Book plates.  Don't you just LOVE the new plates!  All papers are from Graphic 45, I used the plaid paper from this pack to paper piece the sweet little girl.  The ruler image you see is from the new Whimsical Melange plate.  The new plates are wonderful to use on their own or mix and match with past Artistic Outpost plates you may already have in your collection!

    Braver, Stronger, Smarter

The Typography plate works so beautifully with all the various Artistic Outpost plates. I had fun selecting various images to pair with the verses.

The woman in the She-Roes plate has such a beautiful countenance and I thought she was perfect for this sentiment. This sentiment could be used for a girlfriend who needs a little reminder of how wonderful they really are or for a child that needs a little encouragement.

The image is stamped on white cardstock and colored using watercolor pencils and a waterbrush. Then cut out and framed on the circle with the sentiment.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
