Designs by Shelly Hickox

Hey stampers!  I'm finally getting around to blogging and saying hello to all of you since our British Invasion release.  I am actually in the air right now, as I am returning home from a business trip that took me in 4 days to Shreveport, Atlanta, and LA.  It was a whirlwind!  This was not a stamping business trip, but my "day job".  Partner in crime and Artistic Outpost, Shelley Carr, was with me as well, so we had some fun on the side! (Dinner at the Ivy with Sean Penn) - ok really he was sitting three tables over...but you get my drift.

I am thrilled that so many of you have taken to our London stamps.  I just love everything that our designers have been creating with these fun, funky, and functional stamps.  I told y'all in my newsletter that Shelly Hickox approached me what seems like ages ago and told me that she wanted us to do a "London / England"  collection. She knew exactly what she wanted on it, and she was so creative in how she thought it would be used.  Well, she didn't let us down.  Boy has she ever created with it.  Shelly is a very talented artist, and we are lucky to live near one another.  We don't get a chance to hang out near enough.  She is inspiring as well as just a lovely person to be around.  Check out her blog for more of her great works!  I'm showing a few of her beauties here. Don't you love how she made that cute little burlap pillow???  Thanks Shelly for hanging out at the Outpost!

She's So Loverly

I had a hard time deciding what sample I wanted to share with you this week.
I finally  settled on something with a bit of vintage charm and framed her
with some vintage Dresden and some of
Tim's Grunge board latches covered in gold foil.

There's a Song in my Heart

I was playing around with backgrounds and came up with this card.  Both the image and the sentiment are from the Songbirds stamp sheet. There is something about this stamp sheet that keeps me coming back to it. Could it be that I love birds and I love music? I do know that the images are beautiful and the sentiments are very uplifting. For the background of the image and sentiment I used the Pulled Glimmers technique (June/July 2010 TJ Newsletter). I cut the image using a Spellbinders label die and mounted it on a piece of glossy black cardstock. The background panel is done using the Createx Creations technique (April-May 2008 TJ Newsletter). I think it gives the card a bright and ethereal look.

Queenly Green

This sentiment from the new London Underground set is one of my favorites.

For this card, I combined it with the classy lady from Loverly London & green collage papers from Altered Pages. I punched several fern leaves & added a pearl to adorn her stately coif.

The Status of Jay Gatsby

The Gatsby Stamp Collection from Artistic Outpost  brings the energy of history icons and depicts the times of Jay Gatsby.  I love reading about this fella, he comes from an era where great fortunes where made and social status was a bit misplaced.  What I appreciate about this stamp collection, Gatsby,  is the versatility to collate and combine creative works with other Artistic Outpost Stamp Plates.  Take a tour through our gallery and store site. You will envision  cleaver and innovative ways that you can utilize Artistic Outpost Stamps.

Foggy Day

I always think of fog and dreary weather in connection with London.
I'm not sure if it really is always foggy or cloudy there?!!  I've never been there.
I created this card to look like a foggy day.
I stamped the London skyline and "London"  in gray and overstamped
the flag with postage in black.  I added the title in black.
All stamps are from Loverly London.
A very simple card to put together!

Off to Londontown!

Hi Lisa here today! Oh how I wish I was off to visit London, I can surely use a vacation! While working with the newest releases, I googled images of London just to get an idea of what scenes I might be able to put together.  So with a bit of inspiration from the web and London stamps inked up, I did some masking and created this lovely scene using images from Loverly London and Windows and Doors.  I added some Grey clouds to go along with the sentiment and added some of the text images in Black on the 7Gypsies papers.

Cheerio!

London

This was one of my favorite cards created from the new London release. I love that it had bits and pieces of the different sets to create a montage of London.

The Loverly London and London Underground plate have so many wonderful images and they all blend seamlessly together.

The images were stamped using a variety of distress inks and distressed the edges to piece together into a grid card.

Hope your Friday is wonderful!

London Town

Hi Barbara here. My card today features stamps from the two new releases London Underground and Loverly London. Isn't that distressed British flag wonderful? To keep the colors I colored the stamp with Copic markers, sprayed with alcohol and stamped it on the paper. I stamped the London town and Big Ben images in black to keep the emphasis on the flag. I die cut the edges with the stamp-edge die and then layered the collage on red, then whie, and then blue. These London stamps are really versatile.

Life is Good

I had such fun designing with the new Loverly London & London Underground sets ... I love how all of the images work together ... and there are so many fun sentiments. I combined four different stamps to make this collage card.

The stamps also coordinated beautifully with the 7Gypsies Lille Collection of papers.

London Journal

Both the  Loverly London and the London Underground stamps work so well together.   It's so easy to create collaged items with these new sets.   Which is what I've done with my journal.   Shown above is the cover, the inside front and back.   Between are blank pages.

London Jewelry

Hi Lisa here today, have you seen the new London Collections released this week, aren't they great!  When the DT first received the plates to create samples with, my first thought was some funky Bottle Cap Jewelry pieces.

I stamped the images in Black Archival on Vanilla card stock, then added color with Distress Inks. To smash the  Bottle Caps I used my Big Shot and had my DH drill holes so I could attach the jump rings and clasp. I filled in both the Bottle Cap centers and Jewelry Blanks with Ice Resin.

Artistic Outpost Releases Two new Collections

Artistic Outpost is celebrating a British Invasion.
Our two newest stamp collections, available in both unmounted rubber sheets or pre-trimmed and mounted on foam, include both a classic vintage set and a fun and funky homage to all things London.
Loverly London is a collection of vintage inspired imagery of our idealized London. This collection takes some liberties with "My Fair Lady", because we can't help but picture the gentleman in his "dinner jacket" and hat as Professor Higgins and the lovely lady as Eliza Doolittle.
This collection is perfect for incorporating your steampunk elements and other collage themes.

Now for a horse of a funkier color, London Underground, what we think are some of the coolest stamps featuring stylized collage elements. Have fun creating mixed media collages with all these elements. We can't wait to see what you create with the vintage underground sign and the Union Jack.

Both collections are right on trend with things happening in the media and home decor.  So get on the "tube" with us, and let's all go U.K.!!!

Enjoy some savings too. Spend $42 on rubber stamps, and you can save 20%. Simply use the code London at check out!

Be sure to check out the galleries featuring the beautiful cards, tags, and mixed media projects by our created by our talented design team.  You can also find more Artistic Outpost inspiration on our Flickr Group.

The Direction the Wind Takes You

This birthday card for my dog-loving brother-in-law was created using the Adventure plate.

I combined the images and sentiment with Bo Bunny's Timepiece Collection & Saturday Sketch. I added a bit of colored pencil to the dog's happy tongue.

An Era of Fashion, Character and Music

Welcome to Artistic Outpost Blog.  Connie here and I have a book front for an altered album I am making.  The book cover features the "Flapper" stamp plate from Artistic Outpost.  This is one of my favorite sets; for it depicts an era, of a group of women that expressed themselves in fashion, character and music.   The technique used for this altered piece is a method I gleened from Shelley Hickox, who, was also a designer for Artistic Outpost.  Gesso and various colors of Ranger Alcohol inks blended vibrantly with the Warhole technique.

Keep a Song in Your Heart

I love this sweet image from the Bluebird plate. The warm summer days that are reflected in the image and colors of the paper make me feel like our summer has started.

The background is just a combination of pattern paper scraps and doilies inked up with a bit of distress inks.

The stamp plates used are Bluebird and Songbirds.

Have a wonderful Friday!

A Lovely Day

Hi, Barbara here. My card today features this lovely young lady from the stamp set Lovely Day. I think this is such a sweet image and she is so much fun to use. Today I framed her with a die cut from Cheery Lynn Designs  cut from blue metallic origami paper. The ornate cut and shiny metallic paper make a perfect frame for her. She is colored with Copics. The background paper is from Webster's Pages. The pink flowers are created using flower soft. Hope everyone has a Lovely Day.

If We Lived and Were Good

I rolled and inked some kraft paper to make a raft for Huck Finn & his dog. The steamboat is stamped in the foggy misty waters created by using lots of distress inks on blue designer paper.

Freedom

Lisa here today - sharing a card I created with images from the Artistic Outpost Hero and She-roes.  I just love the images in these collections, they are wonderful to mix or use separately on your cards or scrap pages.

The Kraft panel is embossed with the CuttleBug Stars folder, to add color to the images, To add color to the flag I used markers, then added Antique Linen Distress Ink to the edges. The little solider boy was colored using markers, the background sponged with Antique Linen. To add softness to my coloring, I lightly spritzed with water, then smooshed onto a Non Stick Craft Mat, to blend the lines. This image, the Flag and sentiment were crinkled a bit and sponged again to have an aged look.

The image was colored using watercolor pencils and waterbrush.  The background sponged with dye ink.
The background panel is kraft cardstock embossed with wood texture and painted over with white acrylic paint.

Gatsby Framed

I think I've said several times already that I just love the stamps in the Gatsby set.  Here I've framed him in a Spellbinders frame The background is a technique called antique wallpaper from the June 2010 TJ newsletter. I think the background and coloring create the perfect vintage setting for Gatsby's portrait. Barbara Washington--Designer
